Psychology is the study of human emotions and behaviors. A psychologist works with you to understand how your emotions and behaviors impact your functioning.
What to expect when you see a Psychologist:
You are the expert in your life. My job is to support you to live the life you want. We will analyse problems, be curious about possible solutions and lean on your strengths to create a meaningful life.
I use multiple modalities of therapy, all based in evidence and research to prove their effectiveness. I will ask you which modality may be a good fit for you based on your needs.
We will re-evaluate progress and your health journey as we continue to meet. We will also discuss how many appointments you may need to feel better. And for managing your mental health.
What is EMDR? EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is an 8 phase approach to Psychotherapy that is internationally recognized as an empirically supported treatment when provided by a therapist who has completed an EMDRIA Approved Basic Training in EMDR. During treatment, an EMDR therapist will follow the 8 phase protocol and use alternating stimulation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain. Eye movements accomplish this, as do bilateral alternating taps or vibrations, and tones. Desensitization refers to the removal of the emotional disturbance associated with a traumatic memory. Reprocessing refers to the replacement of the unhealthy, negative cognitions associated with traumatic memories with more adaptive, healthy, positive beliefs that are much more helpful.
